Season 03 Episode 03, "The Gothowitz Deviation".

Sheldon attempts to modify Penny's behaviour by giving her a chocolate every time she does something right.

This doesn't belong to me, of course.

The idea to silence your girlfriend with reinforcement learning is just brilliant. The next step would be to lower to gradually lower the rate at which reinforcement is given, as it would force the specimen to exhibit the trained behavior more often to get the same reward.

Imagine that, she'd be quiet forever!

That doesn't prove much. Laugh tracks are ADDED in post-production not used as replacements for the sounds of the audience. That being said in post-production the staff will decide and edit the sound/footage that the television audience gets so that along with APPROPRIATE audience sounds (like real laughter, or appropriate comments) you get laugh tracks where they intend for you to laugh.

Just to further clarify, there's a big difference between what we're seeing on TV and what actually goes down on a live set of a televised sitcom.

It's nothing to feel bad about. It's a traditional practice. For instance, one of my all-time favorite sitcoms was Everybody Loves Raymond. It like all others used laugh tracks and sometimes placed them in bits that weren't funny. As a WHOLE it doesn't make the show less hilarious and laugh tracks can sometimes make it easier to laugh at certain bits

Yes they do. This show isn't the first and it isn't the last. They do it for pretty much every televised sitcom. What was that video supposed to prove? That it's filmed in front of a live audience? I'm sure the audience laughs when they think something is funny but do you honestly believe what the people watching on TV are getting is live and unedited footage? You think that video you posted wasn't put through post-production?

That is what they used to do.I promise you Big bang is filmed in front of a live audience, all you have to do is google it. In the bloopers of the show penny has to stop filming a scene because she makes a quip about a guy not being on her intellectual level, and a guy in the audience bursts out laughing. She stops and looks round in amazement at the reaction before laughing herself... whilst yes, they may add the odd fake laughter in afterwards, all the scenes here are a live audience laughing
