TTC Hawker Siddeley H4 5576-5663

The H4 subway trains were built between 1974-1975 and are currenly the oldest active service trains in the TTC (30+ years!). 36 of the H4 train were retired between late 1990's to early 2000's. Some trains were sold for scrap while the others were converted to workcars.

50 of these service train were rebuilt between 2001-2003 due to service increase and incase Toronto wins the 2008 Olympics. They are mostly assigned to rush hour duties on the Bloor-Danforth line. Sometimes they can be seen in service during the mid days, very rarely on weekends. 6 H4 cars (5604-05, 5608-09, 5640-41) were retired in June 2006. All TTC H4 trains have been retired as of January 27, 2012. The retirement schedule is located at the bottom.

The remaining 44 H4's will start retiring as the new "Toronto Rocket" subway cars will enter service on the Yonge-University-Spadina line. The T1's from the YUS line will be moved to the B-D line as a replacement for the H4's.

i really get mad when i see a not in service H4 or a H4 passes on the other side. because they are getting more rare to find.

@mtattrain - I heard something about H5/H6 least deal. But cannot confirm who or where.

@mtattrain - The H4's and H5's will be retired in this first TR order. The H6's will start retiring in the next couple of years as the second batch of TR's will be replacing them..

So basically, the H4s are retiring while the H5/H6s are being displaced from the system?
