Sooooo....To play the earlier versions, you needed some erasers, clothespin and some dice...Everyone looked manly and had hair. Cut to 4e and you need a computer and it makes you go bald, not one of those mooks has enough testosterone to grow a mustache. Figures this advertisement would have some swishy guy from France hosting it.

I've never really played D&D,except for the video games.But I can see how 4th edition would be better for pure roleplay reasons,without having disputes over complicated rules getting in the way of the fantasy element of playing.

@ZachariasClub Actually, there's some question as to whether they showed 1e or 2e. They showed 1989, which was the year 2e came out, but as it was also 1e's final year it was the year 1e was at last complete. They didn't explicitly say what edition it was, so you gotta wonder which it was, really. The two would look similar enough to an observer unless specific mechanics were discussed (like they brought up intervals, in which case it's 1e, or proficiencies, in which case it's 2e).

The good editions are the even-numbered editions. 2e is superior, but 4E is a hell of a challenger, and it's getting better every year. MIGHT one day surpass it.
