Very quick and dirty!The same as with the exploding vase but the pieces are more random in size and shape

That's really cool. How'd you get all of the particles random sizes? I'm great with blender, but have done so little with the explode modifier.

They are modeled by hand in a few steps and then simulated in BGE.
You can watch my videos for Modeling cracks in Blender,
which explain partially the procedure used in this animation test.
I am considering of removing those videos because there is already a plugin (script) for Blender that can generate cracked pieces of the model.

@SyziphS Thanks, don't take the videos down though, always keep your videos up. Just looks good for your account, that, and I didn't watch them yet lol.

I didn't used Explode modifier on this, but probably an Edge split modifier could do the job.
