Rheingold TV commercial from 2004 parodying NYC's cabaret laws. The law was created in the 1920s to discourage race mixing in bars, and nightclubs. Specifically, the law prevented bars from allowing dancing, and the serving of alcohol at the same time.
Today the cabaret laws are passe, but still enforced. With thousands of bars in nyc, only 200 clubs hold an exclusive cabaret license.
