History

The Dick Lovett Group started in 1959 as a two-man operation called Ross Motors selling motorcycles in Leicester. Dick Lovett, supported by his wife Stella, had a passion for sports cars which he would buy and sell to other enthusiasts. They lived above their business and would be on hand to cater for enquiries from all over the British Isles.

When Dick relocated the business to the South-West and started trading under his own name from the family home in Wroughton (near Swindon) in 1966, we were selling cars such as Lamborghini Miura's, Ferrari 250 SWB's and other such specialist cars that are now proving to be such strong investments.

The desire to be the best in the industry and supply fine quality automobiles still remains the cornerstone of our business today. Dick Lovett is proud to be official franchise holders for Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Lotus, BMW, MINI and KTM stretching the length of the M4 corridor from Hungerford to Cardiff. We also have our own dedicated Bodyshop in Swindon called Dick Lovett Spraymaster that specialises in prestige vehicle repair and restoration. With nearly 450 staff, we have come a very long way but still retain the original ethos of being a family run business.

Dick Lovett and Motorsport.

Peter Lovett, our Chairman, has a passion for sports cars like his father. This originated with an aspiration to be involved and compete in motor racing. As Peter became more involved in the commercial side of the business he became an active participant in various forms of motorsport. He raced a Rover Vitesse SD-1 in the British Saloon Car Championship in 1981-83 winning a number of races up against drivers such as Jeff Allam, Steve Soper and Martin Brundle.

He also raced BMW 323i Saloons in the 'BMW County Championship' representing Wiltshire. Peter's true love was found in competing at Le Mans which he did six times during the 1970s and 80s. During this time, he also raced at the Spa 24 Hours four times. Endurance racing became his natural habitat which perhaps explains why after four decades he is still heading the business!

Following in his father's footsteps, Edward Lovett is also a keen racing driver having participated in the 2006 season of the MINI Challenge winning the Novice's Trophy in his first year of racing. Following this, Edward participated in the 2007 Britsports Championship which he won outright. It's this involvement in motorsport which has taught both Peter and Edward the importance of teamwork and focus on improved performance.

Customer satisfaction through staff satisfaction.

Key to the business's success is the continued drive for customer satisfaction. "Investment in our people to provide first class service is my number one priority" says Peter. He firmly believes that the experience of buying a 'Dick Lovett car' will be a unique and pleasurable one, backed up by a first class aftersales operation to provide a personal service to all of our customers.
