The Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, founded in Lima in 1917, is our nation's number one university, one of the twenty-five best universities in Latin America and the only Peruvian university to be listed among the top five-hundred universities in the world in the international rankings. This placement is recognition of the quality of its education, research, publications, social responsibility, contribution to culture and indisputable institutional and academic leadership. None of this would be possible without the continuing efforts of all those who together comprise this institution: its professors, students, general staff and graduates.
It is NOT the first in Peru, and not the best one. According to UNESCO: 1) San Marcos, 2) PUCP, 3) UPCH, according to SCImago: 1) UPCH, 2) San Marcos, 3) PUCP, according to Webometrics 2011: 1) San Marcos, 2) PUCP. The first and oldest university in Peru is San Marcos University, alma mater of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2010, Mario Vargas Llosa. :)
