Abrasive
Surly Brewing
Beer Geek Nation Rating: A
Beer Advocate Rating: A-
Rate Beer Rating: 99/100

Sure we're abrasive. We were abrasive long before we were Surly. If you visit the brewery you can still see remnants of the industrial manufacturing factory Omar's parents ran for 35 years within those same 4 walls. Bandsaw blades, grinding wheels, and sanding discs came long before ales and lagers. But let's be honest, this is a lot more fun. Pale in color, this over-hopped, under-brewed Double IPA has almost twice the amount of hops & malt crammed in the can.

  • Picked this up this weekend. My girl says, "Oh I dont like those hoppy beers, I wont like that at all". Takes one smell of it and steals my glass. Had to open another can for myself. So hoppy, yet so smooth. Awesome beer! Cheers!

  • @saultbauls hahah the good ol Abrasive panty dropper haha. Yeah I love when people tell me stories like that. haha the power of hops

  • Like others have said it sucks that this brewery is so exclusive. Most of the locals in my home state of Indiana are kinda lackluster with only a few notable exceptions. Bad Elmer Porter from Upland, and Sunlight Cream Ale from Sun King were really good, but pretty much everything else is a big meh. I do think part of the problem is that there are so few beer lovers in my hometown that beer sits on the shelf too long and goes stale. I gotta get out of this state....

  • @capitalistraven Yeah there are a few places around me like that where the beer just sits around and makes me nervous to buy from them. I think unless your in Philly or Cali thats gonna be the case :)

  • This beer is truly amazing. We just did a tour of the Surly brewery recently and they are a true class act there. This company will grow leaps and bounds due to their attitude and most importantly their amazing tasting beer.

  • @bwsheppard I have yet to have a bad beer from Surly. I just wish that I could get their stuff more easily haha!

  • have you tried any Fulton, another MN brewery thats doing great things.

  • @BeerGeekNation Winter Warmer is like a barley wine, with their smokey cigar signature taste.

  • @VideoBeerReviews I think ruination has a much heavier dry finish and more bitterness throughout the overall taste. The abrasive has a huge bitterness in the front but really mellows out with some nice sweetness in the middle and end. It has a dry finish but not as heavy as the Ruination

  • @djmx121 Thanks man. Yeah hopefully one day Surly will get outside of MN. At the rate they are growing im sure it will be soon rather then later...hopefully.
