This song appears on Chicago's latest album Chicago XXX. To my knowledge this is the only time this song has been performed live. It was written by Jason Scheff, Dennis Matkosky, and Greg Barnhill.
Jason Scheff of Chicago did a Special In The Round show at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN on March 23, 2007 with Dennis Matkosky, Greg Barnhill, and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer. That's Jason singing lead, Dennis on the keyboard to the right, and the top of Greg's head at the bottom of the screen.
To watch the entire webcast visit www.bluebirdcafe.com, then go to "Live Shows Online" and then "View Archives Here." It's free but you have to register with Eyecentric. You'll get access to many past Bluebird Cafe shows and more!
To hear the original demo of "King Of Might Have Been" and get the full story behind this song visit myspace.com/jasonscheff and scheffland.com. Jason's very interactive!
Maybe one day, probably in the distant future, there will be peace on earth and a jason sheff related video without a comment about peter cetera

@TimfromChicago hey Tim! You're so right here! It's like Jason himself always says 'do things that come from the HEART and if someone doesn't like it'so be it, but at least you gave yourself and that's what matters most! That's what the people feel! "

just had to add my bit,i am a pro session player and would like to inform the mis informed"obsessed with comercial talent shows"that jason scheff is responsible for some of the most successful melodic pop rock music of the past 25yrs and has sold 40million plus albums for someone to compare him to a uk/usa talent show i can only assume their tone deaf.

@Fayette or shall we call you Simon we can go back and forth on what I see as great music and what you fail to see and thats what makes the world go around imo.Yes ive seen the first round of American Idol on a few occasions and if I saw a performance such as this then Id clearly see a true musician in my opinion.Im not sure what he could have done to impress you with this song but he pours his heart out into it especially towards the end and if that brings him off key in your mind then so be it

@TimfromChicago Maybe you've not seen American Idol first round auditions, but they sing without the "backing of a band." And if i was on the panel, I wouldn't miss any musicians because I would be hearing them in the FIRST round. I'm sure Mr. Scheff is singing it "straight from the heart." Call me crazy, but I just prefer heartfelt singing that's on pitch.

@Fayette well this isnt American Idol its Jason singing it without the backing of a band and singing it straight from the hearty-not to impress a judge. So glad your not on the panel fayette you might miss some great musicians

Whew! That was tough to get through. And to think people pay good money to hear that warbling. He couldn't get past the first round of American Idol.
