What's weird is that you don't know that that kind of guitar (originally made by Selmer) is inextricably associated with Django Reinhardt and gypsy jazz.

The guitar is a Maccaferri manouche style guitar which, along with the small mouth Selmer are the instruments used by the great Django Reinhardt and all jazz manouche musicians. They have 14 frets to the body and an unequaled sound and projection. You can't really play jazz manouche on anything but one of these or similar construction (Django had a lovely electric guitar). And by the way, the kid is great! That's the future of jazz happening right there in the hands of a child - too cool.

thanks for helping get the little guy's rating back up. i didn't literally mean the kid was brilliant when i said it in the video, but at the same time, he already has learned some sweep picking that's quite advanced any pretty cool in itself. most of those gypsy kids have very good manners, they play tight rhythm guitar and will maybe solo on minor swing if you give them the go ahead, but very polite kids. i can't wait to go back someday!
