The guy does have schizophrenia that is why other people are not aware of his "displacement" it is just henry who sees it like that. Although i have found no indication that he dies in the end his schizophrenia gets so bad that he loses all his connection with the world and starts picturing himself in space. For me the saddest part was henry crying desperately "i am here!" :(
