Mary Ohno "Hanayagi Fumiryu" performs a classical dance from 1904 of Shimano Senzai by Kineya Kangoro. Showcase of Japanese Music (Portland, Oregon 2009)

Shima no Senzai
Composed in 1904 by V Kineya Kangoro
Congratulatory dance "Shima no Senzai" is one of the most refined auspicious Naga-uta shamisen piece. Often performed on New Year's Day or happy occasions. Nyoden Otsuki wrote this poem, inspired from pictorial art on a fan of one sacred crane dancing around on a rock in the ocean. This dance depicts a delicate figure of sacred crane, dancing against the golden sun-rising above the horizon of the ocean, this means, wishing good luck and many happiness to you.
