@toothbeaver wouldn't it be nice to be able to grow your own hemp? then you get seeds and the plant.
The whole Hemp plant is misunderstood these days

@toothbeaver, at least when you make it you know there are no chemicals or preservativesand you know it's 100% raw :)

@toothbeaver look for whole hemp seeds rather than shelled ones, they're much cheaper. soak them, blend with water and strain through a nut milk bag and no shell should be left.

@sollysolman so ridiculous right? brother

@hethir Hemp seeds don't sprout in America, they do in Britain. That's because of the illegality of growing hemp in the US.

@toothbeaver get your hemp seeds at pet shops- lots cheaper- also hemp doesn't require pesticides to grow so you don't have to worry about that.

Thank you! Hemp time!

@queenopearls try putting some coco powder in it with flax seeds too........oh baby!!! so yummy
Is soaking the seed ever needed?

@esintial Hemp seeds are the only ones I do not soak. They are not whole so they won't sprout and they are really soft to begin with. Not needing to be soaked makes them very convenient for making milk at any time.

So for a carton of hemp milk it costs about$4. at local grocery stores. Hemp nuts online seem to be bordering on the ridiculous at $10 per lb. thats $5 for a 8 oz cup which is what most recipes call for. and abut 2.5 cups water...so ultimately you are paying over $5 to make as much as you can buy for $4? Did I do the math right or is there someone selling Hemp seeds at a fair price somewhere?? Would love to find them cheap and replace cows milk 100%

@toothbeaver We get 3lb. for $22 online. But regardless of cost homemade hemp milk is so much more nutritious than the carton hemp milk which has a multi-year shelf life. Worth a $1 extra to me to get the essential fatty acids, fiber, protein, etc that will be altered by pasteurization and high temperature cooking that goes into shelf stable milks. Do some price checking with Nutiva searches.
