Brava Mariusz

isnt his intention as Onegin to sound uninvolved? or bored? but with a good voice:))? he is playing a role.
-
he sounds uninvolved and not really understanding the meaning of the words, but rather enjoying the voice, which is very good. Except for that he is fine.
-
who sang Lensky in this production?
-
He doesn't sing the final high F. Otherwise he's good here, probably because he's singing relaxed. In Italian oepra he tends to push which brings on unsteadyness. He looks good on stage and that helps but he isn't quite settled vocally yet

He's not only a great singer, but also a great actor--he gets passionately into the roles.....a great singer must do this. He's been here in Santa Fe for several productions--made a real dangerous, sexy Don G. Gives Hvorostovsky a run for the money in the sexy stage presence (minus silver hair).

I just saw him as Dr. Malatesto in the Metropolitan Opera production of Don Pasquale. Wonderful Bel Canto! Love him.
-
Just saw him in the Royal Opera's production of Marriage of Figaro
last week. Wonderful. What an artist and one who actually "acts"
each role he sings. Imagine that!
-
Mostly it's just that he's too Russian sounding. Listen to any Russian but Hvorostovsky and they sound the same. It also helps Onegin sound more conceited than he already is, which is unneeded.

The door behind Kwiecien and the window are both huge. Could be that.
Mariusz Kwiecien has a place in the opera history of XXI century

He's a wonderful artist. I saw him three weeks ago as Don Giovanni in Kraków. He was magnificent.
