From the Club Oasis TV show of 19th July 1958. SPIKE JONES introduces a Movie Medley, quick-paced selection of film tunes featuring the King Sisters. Doodles Weaver, Joyce Jamison, Brian Farnon, Jad Paul, Billy Barty etc. also participate.
Great sketch! You will never see anything like this on tv today. This was on tv back when there were only 3 channels to choose from. Now you have have over 600 and there is nothing to choose from...perhaps the eating channel, the let's watch a gardener pull weeds in his garden channel, the let's all watch the paint dry channel, the shaving channel, blah, blah, blah.
The Elvis impersonator is Gil Bernal. Gil was the highest paid band member. Clearly Spike was hoping to gain fans from the rock-n-roll generation.
The cameraman who gets hit with a pie is Spike's comedy writer, Eddie Brandt.
But can you imagine the prep and coordination needed to pull off this LIVE SHOW?? No editing - no second takes. It would have been easier to send a rocket to the moon.....
