I just watched an episode of Oprah about autism. I did not realize it is as common as it is nor did I know that children with autism are so active & lively. Your daughter is beautiful . . .and you seem so patient and caring.

Junior has phobias for hand dryers, automatic flushing toilets and his fluffy soccer ball. Sometimes he is so scared his whole body trembles. I've helped him get over the fluffy soccer ball. Hand dryers and auto flushers aren't always available to help him with. After a yr. of being potty trained, we are now dealing with a little regression occassionally there. But, his language seemed to pick up at the same time. I think your a great mom.
She is so much like Colin. Oh she is talking soooo good, I am just crying!! YAAA! Sharlet! Go see my videos in myspace. There is a new one of Colin asking for a "fruit snack".

To be honest, Sharlet is getting very little intervention. She has a couple of hours per week in a group setting, and goes to childcare 10 hrs per week. I have an autism consultant who comes sometimes for an hour to talk about strategies, but thats for her phobias and anxiety. She is progressing well in many areas, but the phobias and panic attacks are getting worse all the time. Of course I try to involve her and engage her whenever possible too. I'm so glad we started PECS when she was 2.

Junior won't eat ice cream, which is probably a good thing for him because he has soft enamel like his dad. Anxiety is something Junior has as well. I do too, but mine of course manifests itself a little bit different. Lots of kids get upset when you take away ice cream, lol. Still working on her video. Regression to progression and back is typical. Reg. is often followed by new skills.

Oh, that reaction from the ice cream is pretty typical I think. It doesn't even register as a blip on the scale of Sharlet's anxiety. Her reaction is sooo extreme for some phobias that I am not even willing to say here what she does.
