It wasn't due to the Iraq War that he didn't go to the Oscars. Mr. Miyazaki is humble enough to know that his work isn't about being the best; it's about expression. He didn't care what a bunch of people in Hollywood thought. He wanted to enlighten the minds of children, and he's done it beautifully.

Porque "nós, Otakus" gostam de entender tudo como se estivessem em guerra contra o resto do mundo? Você entende que é a própria Disney a responsável por localizar os filmes de Miyazaki para o mercado norte-americano? Também não gosto do rumo que a animação americana tomou nesses últimos anos, mas o legado que ela deixou no passado é inestimável até mesmo para as raízes da indústria dos Animes.

@scorpioninpink Even if it is universally praised, that doesn't stop it from being poorly written. Roger Ebert may love it, but that doesn't stop it from having stilted dialogue. It may have an Oscar, but that doesn't stop it from having bland wooden characters. It has beautiful animation and music, but that does not redeem its MAJOR failings as a STORY and a FILM.

I think the only three that should have been nominated were Treasure Planet, Spirit, and Spirited Away.
