Reaction: Will tire tariffs cost consumers?

- President Obama is placing a 35 percent tax on tires made in China after labor unions complained that Chinese imports were forcing U.S. workers out of their jobs. Whats your reaction to this news?

- Will these tariffs help decrease unemployment rates, or will they merely hurt consumers?

- Obamas tire announcement came as the administration is about to lean heavily on organized labor to back its health care overhaul proposal. Do you think the presidents new trade sanctions will help him gain support from labor unions with regard to health care reform?

only 35% tax on chinese made tires... It should have been more like 50%. Chinese made products are like "economic cracks"... They will make you get hooked on it, on the expense of your own economy. The Japanese pay about $40/hr including benefits, GM pays about $70. And, look around the neighborhood at all the Toyotas and Hondas where there used to be Fords and Chevys.

I have American made tires on my new Kubota and it lopes down the highway. However, I don't think Chinese tires would be better. Labor unions are part of the problem in America. They ran GM and Chrysler into the ground, while the competitors gained much ground, made superior products, and paid their workers far less.
