Love this series, Graham. I'm leanring a lot.
Another option I like better because it is more flexible (from Gearslutz):
- Duplicate the vocal track, and set fader to unity.
- EQ the dup - HPF bass and mids, boost treble as much as possible to get it sounding "essy". Watch out for clipping the plug-in, and use the attenuator if needed.
- Route this EQ'd vocal to an unused bus.
- Place a keyable comp on 1st vocal track. Specify same bus as sidechain input, enable external key (if necessary).
