the first thing you should try outis the one drop beat.
this is when there is no kick on the 1, but it comes with the snear doing cross stick on the 3. swing the high hat and accent on 2 and 4. reggae is usually swung but doesnt have to be. if it is, use a lot of different triplet syncopation's. also instead of hitting the crash after 4 bars (or whatever you want it to be), on the 1 of the next bar, hit it with the snear on the 3, the 4 or the and of 4.
Very nice, good feeling! I want to know how did you proceed to learn playing reggae. I don't lessen very often to reggae and I'm more a rock/metal drummer than a reggae one. But I would like to learn playing it, so have you some advices? What should I work the most? Is there something not to do wrong at the beggining?
