Today at Columbia University, a speech by Connie Hedegaard Chairperson of the Sept. 2009 UN Climate Summit and Denmark's Minister for Climate and Energy was interrupted by a wily duo of buccaneers, among them the notorious Cap'n Trade. The two men of fortune displayed a gigantic 2 Trillion dollar bill, with Al Gore as the centerpiece, depicting the union of "environmental" NGO's (NRDC, EDF, Nature Conservancy) with big business entities (Dow, Shell) in a shared struggled to pass corporate-friendly, environment-naaarly legislation: ACESA - the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

I am on the activist side but I think that these theatrical stunts don't help the cause one bit. If we want a real revolution to take place it will happen through rationality and passion...not through props and actors. These activists took over the floor and had ample time to express their opinion but they wasted it with a distracting delivery and a generic message. I believe these cute little activist stunts just perpetuate the problem because if we act silly then no one will take us serious.

Great work, pirate defenders of nature and against hidden taxes of corrupt governments.
