160 protests within just two months - and Canada's student uprising continues unabated. And, with new clashes on Thursday night, the standoff over tuition fee hikes is turning increasingly violent. Centering on the country's second largest city of Montreal, clashes resumed after talks collapsed between student leaders and authorities. Riot officers charged, maced and detained dozens of protesters, while the police chief publicly complained that his forces were worn out. The students are incensed over a tuition fees rise which the government says is necessary. But journalist Bernard Desgagne, says heavy-handed policing will only provoke the students further.

they are riot control, peaceful protest can turn violent any time, and they do. they wear this gear not cause they are pussies, but because their goal is to have a large advantage over the average protester, rioter, etc. they wear it so they can keep control. so that they can go in their and stop others easily with out getting in large, long battles on 1 vs 1 scales. also they are typically out numbered. they are trying to avoid fights so that no one would want to fight them, but they do and cry

You know why? Because they constantly beat them unnecessarily. It's a tiny percent who are violent but everybody gets caught up in it.

When I was being booked at Balmoral Police Station Cst. Tyrvainen #712, Cst Dennis Vincent #310 and Cst Oster #380 did not record that I have a very serious heart condition and that I had a stroke a few weeks earlier. Why? Because they were trying to kill me in jail and by not having my serious health condition recorded on file they could deny that I informed them about my serious health condition and thereby would not be suspected of foul play in the unfortunate event of my death in custody.
