Islam is the fastest growing religion on earth. However, with this fact comes an unfortunate truth: Islamic fundamentalism has also dramatically increased. It is my sincerest opinion that while the spiritual aspect of Islam poses no threat to Western values and freedoms, it is the accompanying political expression of Islamic law (sharia) that is the single greatest threat to our most cherished liberty: the freedom of expression.

As a catalyst of this endeavor, I watched in shocking disbelief at the violence and carnage that ensued after the republication of the now infamous Danish cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper. Muslims around the world protested with a resounding tone the caricatures of their most sacred prophet. Although most of these protest were relatively peaceful, numerous riots developed that resulted in violent attacks on churches, embassies, and innocent persons. Although power and politics have often clashed with art throughout the ages regardless of the religiosity of the reigning regime, fundamental Islam is inherently hostile towards the liberal arts.

As a civilized people, we should always strive to be respectable and tolerant of other's beliefs. However, when others attempt to silence our dissent with violent protestation and reactionary measures, we must resist oppression and refuse to submit to intimidation or the self-imposed taboos of our politically correct culture, lest our freedom of expression will surely erode to nonexistence. The free expression of ideas is the cornerstone of any liberated society. Uncontroversial and non-offensive ideas rarely need to be defended; it is always the unpopular and dissenting viewpoints that need protections. Therefore, as an artist, and most importantly as an American, I believe it is imperative that we challenge this intolerant reaction and protect our most essential freedom at all cost - even in the face of death itself.

  • There is "crazy people" in every religion!

Before, now and later.... As long as people claim to know an answer that is not supposed to be answered there will be conflicts in the meaning of it all.

And to the person making this video, you did a good job making it, but try do much less of the repeatings, it was very ... (out of words.) of you todo.

STOP belive in religion overall, belive in true love, fear is your own illusion made up by many religions.

  • That was about the most stupid comment I have ever had the displeasure of reading. "Fear is your own illusion..." are you smoking crack? And Muslims are surely cornering the market on "crazy people."

  • Jihad and the Arts is my personal protestation against the fanaticism and violence that followed the publication of the now infamous Danish caricatures of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the inherently hostile attitudes toward the arts posed by fundamental Islam. As an artist, and most importantly as an American, I believe it is imperative that we challenge this intolerant reaction and protect our freedom of expression at all cost - even in the face of death itself.

    You're a danger.

You're violent and full of hate.

You insult everybody and the things you say in the name of Allah, make him the ugliest god I've ever seen.

Because of people like you, preaching murder, Islam is doomed. Consider it done.

  • That muslims said : We will invade denmark and take their wives as war booty...

  • Keep it going bro!

  • LOL @ 0:31-0:35!

Islam is the most perverse religion in the world.

Contrary to popular belief, not all religious text can incite mass murder; you need 2 conditions to do that.

#1: The doctrine must teach violence #2: It can't be aviliable to the populous if it is peaceful.

This is why protestantism emphasized Bible reading: to make sure the children could not be manipulated by priests or the like.

But if the doctrine is hateful like islam, than everyone who understands it will be violent.

  • ISLAM AND QURAN IS PEACEFUL

    attention, sarcasm detected

  • I am sorry that you feel the need to offend me.
