This video documents a survey to detect wireless access points in San Francisco during Spring 2010. Students that enrolled in specific Computer Networking and Information Technology courses at City College of San Francisco organized teams to drive through city streets to determine the types of encryption utilized to protect these WiFi access points. No other data was surveyed during the project.
Student teams planned their driving itineraries and drove for approximately one hour to complete their surveys. This was not a definitive wardrive survey due to the size of the city and limited amount of time to conduct the survey, but it establishes an adequate summary of the state of wireless network infrastructure in the city during this time period.
802.11n AP's were not completely covered for this survey. The WPA2 encryption standard was not included in previous surveys until after Spring 2009.
