This is an ungrafted orange. any citrus not grafted is bitter or sour. Hi from fla home of the citrus. these oranges are best started from seed and are best used in cooking and made into a lenonade type drink.

Would I be able to start a satsuma from seed? I have a satsuma tree in my yard and it have over 40 satsuma's on it! I would love to be able to start some trees from the seeds. Thank you!

so fun to get back in there with the four wheelers looks like a place I would love.. bitter oranges , never heard of them but interesting, not liking the thorns.. ouch! I would imagine nothing bothers this plant... Melissa you are still wearing shorts, must be nice... hehe..

Thanks for sharing this interesting plant! They grow here in northern Illinois also (I am Zone 5a west of Chicago) - infrequently planted and more as a curiosity. Specimens are at U of I Champaign-Urbana, though interestingly none are currently in collections of woody Rutaceae at either the Morton Arboretum or Chicago Botanic Garden.

@GardenOpus Thanks for the great comment! ... Anytime they want a cutting I will be glad to get them some.. Or maybe I should just send them a few of the oranges.. heehee..

up to a zone 5????? i am in a zone 8 in texas and I have tons of theses things everywhere

@johnny30806 Yep! Zones start in the north as 1 and go down to 12... Man these bitter orange plants have some thorns dont they..
