For many situations, a raised garden makes sense. If your soil is compacted or rocky or contains a lot of clay, you can get a fresh start above ground with better soil for your plants' roots. And there's no rototilling or deep digging necessary with raised beds -- simply have topsoil delivered from a reliable source or purchase bags of good-quality potting soil and compost from a garden center. Design and build the raised bed yourself from rot-resistant materials available at home stores, or purchase an easy-to-assemble kit. Once filled with new soil, it will be ready for colorful flowers, tasty herbs, and your favorite vegetables.
