Chris Green and her family convey their love for each other that spans many generations. They are all active in the community in West London. West London films shows you the Tower block the family lives in, the "slum" that Chris describes and the pleasure in the party celebration, in this powerful short documentary. Sadly, Chris Green suddenly died a few months after this film was made.

  • That is a really nice idea. You've come up with a great idea there, it's about time someone did something about the problem of tower blocks. We need to rebuild communities in Britain again. There was a time when neighbours actually knew each other and that friendship brought about trust; people don't know their neighbours now and are even seemingly suspicious of them. The result being a collapse of community of course.

  • Great video. I think certain floors in a tower block should be devoted to community activities, for example a gym, a restaurant, cinema etc. This would help raise community spirit and civic pride.

  • This is my cousin Christine, We grew up together in London. I hadn't seen her since I moved to the states in 1966. I am so thankful to have this video as a keepsake. God Bless you Chrisxxxx

  • God bless Mum xxxx

  • OMG i used to live in this tower block, my dad still does, Harrow Road was the place back in the day!

  • First of all R.I.P Chris Green. This country will miss you and many of the old generation like you.

As for the tower blocks, they are monstrosities. They look hideous, bring down the area, and unfortunately most of them are 'slums' as she rightly said.

Im glad to say that in East London, many have been knocked down and replaced with maisonettes and it is a vast improvement.

  • Lovely insight

  • Rest in peace, Chris Green.

This was a great video, thank you for drawing my attention to it.

  • Alot of the problems with tower blocks is the wrong kind of people are housed in them. I live in a 1960's 20 storey tower block and it is now mainly young working professional singles and couples, for which it is ideal. They were built for families, but they didn't really work, i think the masonette style high rises were more ideal for families. Tower blocks get bad press cos of the image they give, but that is usually because of the councils failure to keep them in good shape. I love my block.!
