The Tennessee National Guard's 913th Engineer Company deployed from Union City, Tenn. on Thursday, Aug. 18. The soldiers, along with a Tennessee Highway Patrol escort and riders of the Patriot Guard, made their way through Dyersburg on their way to Memphis.
The unit, consisting of 164 soldiers will fly to Fort Bliss, Texas for training and then to Kuwait in support of the Afghanistan war.
According to the AP, more than 2,000 soldiers from the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard have deployed since Sept. 11, 2001.

@USmarine0813 Good,I agree it is sad that service men/women do not get the respect they deserve many times. There are some however who realize how much you all sacrifice for our country so that we can enjoy freedom and safety that is not seen in other countries. I know we all take things for granted, myself included, but we should all take a moment to realize just what our sevice men/women sacrifice (as well as their families). @tamdjete No, it was not a poke at the 913th, but to remind the ppl that the City has children of her own who also sacrifice too much for very little respect given to them by their fellow city members. As a friendly reminder should any one ever see one of us Marines,Saliors,Airmen,Soliders,or Guardsmen do not look down on us for we are the reason for your safety.

@USmarine0813 None of us should ever forget ANY of our service men/women, present, past, state side, over seas, Army, Marine, or any other branch of military! I appreciate what you do as well as what every man and woman of the 913th do. I feel it sad if that comment was to degrade the service they are providing for our country. Hopefully that is not the case. May God bless this country and ALL the men and women who serve!
