Viral Pneumonia is relatively rare > age 2. Bacterial pneumonia is often associated with a history of "hay fever"
with sinusitis -> aspiration or asthma. My treatment in young adults has never failed me: Ceftriaxone + Dexamethasone, if allergy associated, followed by oral Erythromycin Ethyl Succinate (EES) qid. EES covers Atypical Bacteria and Mycoplasma. EES has a short half life and quicker therapeutic onset than Azithromax.
Thanks LLMD! you rock!
