On February 9, 2011, the wonderful artist and teacher Dan Kryston passed to glory after a short but brutal fight with pneumonia. Preceded in death by his parents Josephine and Edward Kryston; survived by his only sister Karen Kryston and her partner Renae Miller, Living friend Craig England, mentor extraordinaire and soul mate Susan Stauter, cherished friends: Cathy & Carol, The Gonzalez family, Barbara Bettina, Anne & Dave, countless others and of course his beloved pups Caln & Naya. He will also be missed by The Bachinski and Sewick families.
Dan was born on December 20, 1952 in Chicago, IL. There he attended St. Bruno's Grammar School and St. Ignatius Prep School, where he started his career in performing arts. BA from Regis College in Denver, graduate work at UC Davis, and PhD in Theatre Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dan had worked in professional theatre but chose to apply his considerable talents for the benefit of young people as a credentialed teacher. He taught in Colorado, Illinois, Arizona and California (Woodland, Sacramento and San Francisco). For the last several years, Dan received much acclaim for his work at Ruth Asawa San Francisco School Of The Arts. Dan was also a remarkable chef and restaurateur owning the Windy City in Alexandria, VA and co-owning Piaf's Restaurant and Cabaret in San Francisco with his sister Karen.
