Best Mic For Podcasting: Shure SM58 - It's a fake mic :(

Just got my Shure SM58 - small demonstration of its quality.

It's plugged into an E-MU 0404 USB - recorded with quicktime professional on a Logitech webcam.

UPDATE: The microphone is a fake!!! - Just a cheap copy. It's still significantly better than most stuff you get built into webcams and cameras, but yeh, it's a fake :(

@0002591 It's a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro Webcam for Mac. It's advertised as 2 megapixels but I can't get videos over 640x480 with it :(

SM58 mics are commonly faked. For £30 off eBay it's definitely a fake, you won't pick up a real one for less than £80.

It is a helluva good mic though. Though you'd be more suited to a condenser mic for podcasting (but then you need phantom power).

I am sorry to say this but I'm 80% sure this mic you're using is a fake. I know what an SM58 sounds like and this does not even come close. Too bad.

@alexn882 I've looked at a few more videos and the warranty card is fake - looks like you are right, this is a fake :/ - Doesn't sound half bad though!

@alexn882 This is anon321, switched my account. This microphone has the Shure logo and number marking inside the XLR connector, comes with the clip, cable tie, shure sticker, carrying pouch, manual and warranty card. The box serial matches the microphone, weight matches the real one. I checked all the ebay fake guides and this one doesn't have any of the signs of a fake. It also does not sound in any way tinny - even when recorded straight out of sound card like in the video.

Have you done any noise removal on the audio of this video? I hear some artifacts.

as someone wanting to do podcasts and voice-overs- is this mic good foe just speaking into it or would a diferent mic be better? Does it plug straight into the computer or do I need some kind of extra thing to plug it into? I know nothing about mics im afraid :/
