NRV from Chile started a new project on Atari 8bit machines called "Project M". This is basically a clone of very well popular Wolfenstein 3D PC game. The Atari screen shows 256 colors, and was programmed with GTIA 11-9 interleaved mode. It's very interesting and impressive, this APAC mode is very strange on games, previously was used on demos scene.

This is the first step of this project, it shows scaling effects, software sprites and mixing colors with real PM Sprites.

  • Incredibly good graphics. Is the game finished?

the other ones look more possible

  • @lurkerrekrul wrong again;) last update was made 4 months ago;) anyways we all know that this game hasnt been being written for the money. Look at the space harrier project. it has been almost 8 years(as far as i remember) since the project was started. and guess what:the project is almost fully completed:) and he the atari version plays and looks great!these guys are fanatics.they still develop games for the 8bit atari (crownland, dr mario, gosts n goblins, just to name a few).

  • @thorgallpl - All the updates I could find on the net are 6-12 months old. As far as I can see, it hasn't gotten much past the demo stage. What will almost certainly happen (if the project isn't dead already) is that it will get to an early beta stage before the author gets tired of working on it and gives up. Just like any one of a hundred other projects that will never see the light of day, like the huge new single-player campaign for the Windows version of Halo. Remember that one?

  • @lurkerrekrul wrong;)

  • it not that impressive.can anybody remember capture the flag on 800xl?

  • @RetroShinigami It probably could if it had more RAM. The Atari 8s packed up to 128k compared to the 7800, which only had 2k? Atariage is releasing an addon module that'll add more ram and two extra sound chips to the 7800.

  • Another demo that has people drooling over the possibilities of it becoming a full game. You can forget it, it will never be anything more than what you see here.

  • HmMMmM i wonder how it would be if a major company were to make a high graphic wolfenstein game, like REALY high graphic!
