The Tower of Druaga for pc engine played on normal difficulty. (stages 1 - 22 on the vid)
pc engine version is graphically different from the ones made previously (ie the original arcade, MSX and famicom). and you can start off with either, Easy , Normal, Hard and Pro Difficulty. Plus a password feature to continue later on. The pro game is virtually the same methods as used in the arcade to reveal the treasure chests.

  • It's quite cool how close the sound is to the arcade(though the arcade was old, and some instruments/notes are missing from this version). Honestly, I never managed to quite get into the arcade version. Like good luck surviving without the boots!.

Would you recommend this port over the arcade version?

  • @Corad4

if you mean emulation then go for it as there was a patch to translate the text into english and later on you do need some japanese knowledge in answering some questions. I dont have the english patched ROM anymore since my hard drive died on me a few years ago.

  • This is a nice version of The Tower Of Druaga game...I just recently beat it today in Namco Museum Vol.3 .(Very hard, I continued for like 25 times)

By the way, what are those BLUE CRYSTALS for?

  • on the pc engine version you collect spirit crystals which you can assign to Gil's six different attributes: Total Health, Offensive Power, Defensive Power, Sword Speed, Walking Speed, and Pickax

  • In other words, if one doesn't put them all on HP or defense, one is insane, right?

  • on each floor you also get new armour, shields, swords which automatically equip on your character but you can access a menu any time and change your items accessories.

  • I started playing this after I saw the anime. My friend even found an english patch for it so I could understand the story XD Now I hope the MMO comes out soon.

  • i watched the whole thing lol

  • @ChikikyoKONAMI Yeah the Namco Arcade version from the 80's was insane.

  • This game took up two months of my life until I called it quits.....time to pick up the disc and ride again!!

  • O_O

  • I have never played the Nightmare of Druaga. But who has seriously played through the whole game??? Including the Tower between Heaven and Earth? According to Wikipedia and other people, nobody knows the really true ending of The NIGHTMARE of Druaga, because nobody has ever reached the end of the tower/game...

  • I'm shocked that IGN and other American and Western Review Sites really dislike Tower of Druaga. Not even the Wii Arcade Version, but they called the game lame when it appeared on the DS with the other Namco Games... Same with it's port collection on the PSX... Namco Museum Vol.2? Whatever... It looks kinda reptitive, but yeah the Japanese love it and Namco is godly proud of it. I can respect that. But it's a bummer that not so much people have made ToD fanfics or Deviantart stuff...
