Dan Arborise is a songwriter and guitarist from Devon, UK. Dan Arborise's sound is a mix of complex picked acoustic guitar, embellished by looping and delay effects to mesmerising effect, married to his tender and warmly affecting vocals. Compared with John Martyn and Nick Drake, Dan makes modern folk music which is in no way insipid but full of freshness...

  • As a huge fan of John Martyn, I cannot ignore the obvious, and sometimes spooky similarities between John and Dan BUT I cannot deny that Dan is very talented and I am going to listen to more of his stuff....it is strangely comforting to hear new material like this now the Big Man is no longer with us. I like the cut of his jib!

  • Very interesting. Clearly a real talent. Obviously also comparison inevitable to John Martyn..and unfair to some degree to do that...taking on own merits this chap is v good. That last song played reminded me very much of Johns *sound* back in say 71, 'Bless the weather period' (a v good sound btway). Im going to listen to more of this bloke. Good warm laid back vocals and v good guitar picking with original own music- not alot around these days!

5* for this introduction, Ta very much!

  • anyone know of a place i can get a tab for my child? or any other of his songs for that matter!!

  • I'm very skeptical....this is a coincidence? I think handlers hoping there are so few memories of the great John Martyn....especially "Solid Air" days, "Sunday's Child" etc....that they can pull the wool over virgin eyes....I'm not convinced....very pedestrian, actually. Colorado ski-country apres ski.......dime-a-dozen.

  • Mesemerising is the only word to describe his live performance. Guys a legend.

  • I have been so fotunate to have been introduced to Dan's music through "The Word" music mag. I am in awe of your music, Dan. You remind me of Shawn Phillips/Jon Martyn/ Nick Drake/Jeff Buckley/Elliot Smithand Leonard Cohen. However, you are unique despite the comparrisons. What an absolute serendipitous discovery. My life has been enriched!

  • Saw Dan last nite at glee club birmingham. Mesmerising is overused word, but it was ,well..... mesmerising. Especially loved 'my child'

    Thanks

  • wow. This is excellent!!

  • I bought "Around In Circles" when it was released a few years ago and practically played it to death I loved it that much. The new record, "Of Tide and Trail" is equally mesmerising and beautiful.. I have a feeling i'll playing this one to death too and it's been well worth the wait.

Dan Arborise is a wonderfully talented musician. It's so refreshing to listen to someone with such a distinctive style.

  • Well it's obvious that you're not going to be warmly received when you are comparing new artists to greats.

It's clear that Dan was influenced by John Martyn, and Dan is a very talented artist.

Just try not to take the phrase "compared with" too literally.

Dan's first album Around in Circles is a genuinely incredible work of music.

I understand where you're coming from, but don't take the cheap n' easy route of demeaning a new artist because somebody "compares" him with an influence
