  • That is how rhythm guitar playing is supposed to be done.

  • The one dislike is from a 17-year old with a silly accent living in Essex. She has a particular taste for jam, wishes the boy of her dreams, Blaze, didn't live halfway across the world, and will never meet her "best friend" Nicole in real life. Fellas, meet BeckyJudas.

  • They had a tape recorder and one mic set up in the motel room when a hurricane warning was issued. It turns out that Lester was deathly afraid of hurricanes, so they played every tune as fast as they could (with one take), threw the gear in the car, and mailed the tape on their way out of town.

I still think the Mercury "Country Music" album is one of the very best, and it sure has "energy"!

  • Back in the 1970's, Josh Graves stayed with us for a few days while on a solo tour. I said how I thought Flatt & Scruggs' first Mercury album was the ultimate bluegrass records, crackling with energy and drive. He laughed, and told us about where that 'energy' came from. F&S was behind schedule providing the label with the tracks for the new album, and issued a deadline. F&S were touring in Florida (Miami?) and were going to record the tracks before driving to the next gig. (continued)
