No Noise at 1600? What are you smoking man. Your going to have a lot of noise at 1600. The d40 sucks above 800 ISO.

Megapixels mean next to nothing once you get into the field of DSLR's as opposed to point and shoot cameras. What really matters in a DSLR is it's image sensor, which is nearly the same in both the d40 and d60

Okay so im lookin to get a nikon finally because i had a canon rebel and grew out of that so quick, but now im debating on which nikon i should get d1h, d40,d60,d80 ect. I'm looking for something i wont grow out of , what do you think i should do? I enjoy the 3-5 fps factor.

@904SF I have owned BOTH A D40 and a D60 camera...So I know what I am talking about!
The D40 is a super camera.. I KID YOU NOT!
Megapixels dont mean jack shit... I havea 14 MP point and shoot camera which I carry everywhere as a "Back up" camera.. It is only used as a back up camera beause my D40 beats it HANDS DOWN. If I am going out with the intention of taking photos I use my D40. What a cracking camera the D40 is.

@DRFay123 The D3000 is not a bad first DSLR.
You could do a lot worse for a first "Proper camera" It has now been replaced by the D3100 But I can still recomend a D3000 Camera

D60 = Very poor. I owned a one it was pants.
D40 = GREAT DSLR camera. I have one it is a SUPER little camera.
I have just bought a new D3100.. Great camera.

Everyone in these amateur review vids acts like an expert.

would this work in the d3000
-
is there aperture / shutter priority on the D300?
-
the d3 is not the only nikon FX format for example the d700

You are forgetting one improtant advantage of the D40 over ALL other Nikon and Canon DSLRS. IT has a max. flash sync speed of 1/500 sec while all others are between 1/200 and 1/250 sec. THi si significant for fast flash fill in photography and rapid movement (kids) indoors flash photography with a capable flash. Why Nikon does not offer this in their newer models is a mystery to me!

this is just a basic overview. My nikon d40 review mentions this.
