I added a Pyrometer to the foundry as well as a spray mist coolant tank I had lying around for the waste oil tank. Works pretty good as it is designed for spraying mist coolant. I wrapped the oil feed line around the inlet burner tube to preheat the oil into the nozzle. I took it up to 2200 degrees before shutting it down. Very little smoke this time out. I think I'm getting the hang of the air/fuel ratio.

  • Love your design. Would love to switch to waste oil fuel. Only problem i have with it is that it wrecks the heck out of refractory cement. How do you deal with this? I notice your furnace is black inside on this video where your early videos the furnace was in great shape. Also what does it do to your metal pours? Do you end up with a lot of impurities from the unburnt fuel?

    Thx, great vids!

  • @ImbueUOdotcom It smokes like crazy if you don't have the right fuel/air mixture. After a few tries and adjustments it burns clean. There was so much smoke in the beginning I was afraid the fire dept would come. It's all trial and error.

  • Where did you get that pyrometer? All I can find online are those ugly digital multimeter type units. And apparently you're trying hard to get the whole thing leveled out, why is that so important? I am currently building my own furnace, so I'd appreciate any input...A really beautiful furnace you have there btw!

  • @Tubelaw Thanks for the comment. I stuck the level on simply because I had it. There are leveling legs in the three corners to add stability although I rarely use them. The unit is on casters so I can move it in and out of my shop when needed.

  • I've never given it consideration. I'll have to think about that one. Thanks for the input.

  • It does look very stable, and the design is tremendous, to say the least. Would you share your picture with me as well?

Not sure how to send you my email address (ie how do I get your email, to send you mine)?

  • @alex1212a Just post your email here and I will send photos. I will be out for a few days but will sned when I return. Jeff
