  • Shoulda Left the Paint Original and why paint the hood gloss??

  • My two favourites .. 1971 ford boss 351 mustang and 1974 ford falcon xbgt coupe. There's just something about the shape of them ..

  • @3333glen That's what buick did for the 70 455GS. Because GM had the 10 lb per horse power rule Buick rated the GSX stage1 at 360hp @4600rpm (true) but Redline was 5200 rpm Maybe 400-410hp. SAE Net was suppose to fix that. Remember the rating was at the rear wheels. That's why different cars with the same engine would have different ratings. Into the 2000s and testers had trailer dynos that measured at the rear wheel. We found, in fact, corporations were fudging

  • @Chevymonster203 Last year Hot Rod Magazine dyno tested stock rebuilds of Chevy and Ford performance small blocks. The Boss 351 and the Chevy LT-1 350/370 hp small blocks were among those tested. The Boss 351 made more horsepower than the 350 LT-1. Its in black and white and I’m sure you can find the article on the Internet or in a hardcopy back issue.

Factory ratings meant little back then; some engines were underrated and some were inflated. Chevy usually exaggerated them.

  • @DONDIVA1969 That's actually not true the 351 cleveland only made 330hp at the crank probably more like 350hp, but the 1971 camaro z28 with the Lt1 350 made 370hp factory. It came with 11 to 1 compression and a high rise intake, it also came with a holley 780cfm carb and cowl induction. They were both close and the cleveland is not a small block it is a mid block meaning it is just slightly bigger than a small block, but not a big block. The 315 windsor was a small block.

  • @jonezet i LOVE these cars. you can find them decently priced and the collectability is becoming more and more popular as the years go by..Im sure you could really open this thing up despite it being detuned..im more into resto-modding myself

  • @DONDIVA1969 Good call! Very True! That 351 hauled that Mustang very well and those year 'Stangs were not small!

  • @jamielynjoystewart I agree with all, except the end. SAE net didn't stop fudging. Also, one trick manufacturers have used is to use an artificially low rpm for max hp. They might rate the engine as 300 hp @ 5000, which might have been true...but the engine would rev to 6000 where it might make 400 hp. This was often to avoid high insurance rates which were often based on lbs/hp ratio.

  • come check out my 1972 grande, im going to be posting more videos since ive been working on the car! thanks

  • @MultiAREE Car manufactures were constantly manipulating horse power ratings for a verity of reasons. Boss 302 @ 290hp why? Because the 302 Z28 claimed 290hp. but the simple fact is since the dawn of the muscle car era ding-a-lings with low skills and too much money were wrapping themselves around America's collective telephone poles and insurance companies didn't like it. So 1971 Boss 351 rated @ 335 should've been 390 or 410. In 72 everything changed from gross to SAE net. no more fudging.
