I filmed this video over Memorial Day weekend 2011 in Cape Hatteras, NC. This guy was collecting seashells in a restricted area on the beach. The Park Rangers asked 3 times for the guy to put his hands on the tailgate and stop what he was doing, and he did not listen. The male officer then grabbed the guy's arm to instruct him where to put his hands, that's when the guy started to force-ably resist and talk back to the Park Rangers. I saw this starting to go down and looked for my camera, I started filming as soon as I could.

  • @compaq2441 Don't know where you got that number, the NC fiscal report shows much less than that. And let's say for arguments sake that it was 45 Million. And lets' say for arguments sake, that almost half of that doesn't come from the Mainland side, but is all directly attributable to the OBX side. It's still not enough to cover the massive amount of financial resources that has to be poured into the OBX to keep what little infrastructure there is running.

  • @compaq2441 I agree with everything you just. It is also has nothing to do with the fact that the rest of the OBX should never have been developed. It has to constantly be rebuilt, refortified, renourished. What, you think it's just some sort of conspiracy that the insurance companies are pulling out of the OBX ?

  • this isn't DNR. these are federal cops for the national park service.

  • @compaq2441 Oh and in 2010 Dare county contributed 45 million dollars to the state of NC from tourist taxes on occupancy. that did not include sales tax, gas taxes property taxes or use taxes. It GIVES back more than any other 5 counties in NC to the state.

  • @TheMichaelDenny What part of "sandbar " are you talking about? the vast majority of the outerbanks was heavilly forested trees until the mid 60's In 1966 to 1972 UDFWS cleared hundreds of acres of pea island for a bird habitat. and continute to do so ride down rt 12 from jan to march and you will see all the controlled burns to keep the vegitation from coming back. Wonder why frisco woods got it's name? it did from 1580 when it was noted the entire hatteras island was covered in trees

  • @compaq2441 You sir, are short sighted. It is not tourism, by itself. It's the totality of the circumstances. Much of the OBX should never have been developed to begin with, as it is not "land" at all, but simply a sandbar sticking out of the water. Common sense in development was done away with in an attempt to capture more of that tourism dollar. Net net, the OBX is a loss. You are also incorrect about Dare county paying for itself. It does not. In fact, it does not even come close.

  • @TheMichaelDenny Actually you sir are wrong tourisim makes more money than any other endeavor. No schools are needed very little fire/EMS resources per capita and by their very nature tourists are net spenders by far requiring almost no resuorces of the host area. Dare county is only one of 3 counties in the entire state of NC that contribute more than they take

  • @Bartman167 Tell yourself whatever you need to, big guy.

  • @TheMichaelDenny No facts, no figures, just more assertion. As Sir Isaac Newton once said, "If you can't express it with numbers, you don't understand it." At this point I'm done arguing with a biased ignoramus who wouldn't know fact if it bit him on the nose. Good day, sir.

  • @Bartman167 The property taxes that are so hard to afford are so hard to afford because the tourism pushes up the property appraisals so high via poor ordinance control. Even with property tax revenues, the OBX still fails to pay for itself. Income, property and sales taxes combined still are less than half of what it takes to maintain to very, very poorly run and managed OBX. It's a giant welfare state and a drain on the rest of the state.
