Justin Rattner, Intel Corporation's Chief Technology Officer takes a fascinating look at how technology will bring man and machines much closer together. He predicts big changes are ahead in social interactions, robotics and improvements in computer's ability to sense the real world. Rattner believes that we may be approaching an inflection point where the rate of technology advancement is accelerating at an exponential rate, and as a result, machines could overtake humans in their ability to reason, in the not so distant future.

Kate Greene, Information Technology Editor at the MIT Technology Review joins Justin Rattner to discuss the many important emerging innovations in semiconductor and other computing technologies that will make human and machine interaction more robust, perhaps sooner than any of us expect!

  • Interesting discussion. Although, he seems to use the phrase "you know" a lot.

  • I really need to make a trip to the Computer History Museum.

  • Every time he said 'you know' I punched a baby.

  • As most people know there is a long history of eschatological salvation- expectations. (Naherwartungen); many of them resulting in gruesome desasters.

I think that the enthusiastic notions about the ''technological singularity'' are the latest - and maybe last - example of this phenomenon.

  • Well, it really sickens me that i'm one of those pessimistic guys who are not very sure wether life and consciousness will survive the singularity. But presupposed life and consciousness will continue, then there’s a good chance (in my humble opinion) that this unimaginably intelligent, immortal, mankind-absorbing entity the singularitarians are so eager to create will be a very very poor devil, experiencing just infinite boredom and desperation. Wouldn't that be a heartbreaking irony?

  • his ideas are weak...intel is way too weak to change the world

  • nanotubes? quantum mechanics spin? what a laugh

  • lol @ the "you know"

  • something wicked this way comes

  • I know in mylove of science, scientists can become madmen in so many terms. scavengers in others and fund seekers in others. there are so many variations of the science and the scientific mind that, some are actually out of control. others an interest in the human condition and assistive with all intentions, others, yet, one must consider all demeanors of all the scientist this world has to offer.
