East Longmeadow has the biggest parade in Western Massachusetts on Independence Day. This year Forest walked with his Cub Scout pack, wearing his Class B authorized Cub Scout shirt (yellow T-shirt instead of traditional uniform). Siblings were invited so Sky joined him in an Uncle Sam hat. They were passing out candy with the rest of the scouts.
Also at least one parent for each scout had to attend, so there were a lot of folks walking along with them.
I decided to spare my feet and knees and ride my bike instead of walk, and as long as I was doing that I might as well pull our bike trailer with a big cooler full of drinks. So I was the pack Water Boy. I decorated my bike up for the occasion.
There wasn't much to see in our section of the parade... Just a crowd walking down the street following flags and banners and throwing candy at people. :-) Maybe next year we'll build a float. The girl scouts were in front of us and the girls soccer champions were behind us. There was a big monster truck behind them with wheels big enough to squash the whole pack.
The first part of the video is from my point of view with the iPhone. The second part is from my wife with our Panasonic HDC-TM90K Flash Memory camcorder.
It's the second time I've ridden my bike in a parade. The first was the Colorado Centennial / American Bicentennial parade of 1976 when I was 11 years old.
