Somewhat of a return to their early, R&B-oriented work, "You'll Never Get to Heaven" was a brief respite from the creative free fall that the songwriting team of Bacharach/ David were in during the early '70s. Lush melodies with creamy major-seventh chord changes are wrapped around a typically literate set of Hal David lyrics. Although this was a slight rebound for the songwriters, the song sadly didn't chart, although it remains a cult favorite.
