Hey Bob,
The wrench says to use a 1 to 1 mix for the transmission of 90 weight gear oil & straight 50 weight motor oil Castrol GTX (keep in a plastic jug). For the engine, 40 weight Castrol GTX oil (good for hot/cold climate). If you live where it is hot all the time, use 50 weight oil for the motor. His preference is Castrol, yours may be different.
I do have a slight leak from a plug under the trans. and the wrench will fix that this winter. So I go through a lot of tran-fluid right now.

Don't get me wrong; I had trouble with my local HD shop. Maybe they all are not like that. It does seem as though they only want to work on the new bikes. The guy that fixed my bike had a shop in my town in the 70's, moved away, then moved back to town. He fixed my bike (the original carb)and I have been dating him ever since. (hey, its hard to find a good wrench.) He's a great guy, real old school;lives on a farm and has horses too.
I was thinking how could they work on my bike if they dont even what fluids to put back in it. Know what I mean?

Nice paint on the cycle Bob. Do you work on your own bike? I have a 1979 Super Glide. Its very stock and I get a lot of response when I ride to Bike Nights. I still have the orginal carburetor, it took a long time to find the right person to adjust it for me the correct way. It really made me mad that my local Harley Davidson shop refused to workd on my bike. You would think they would stand behind any product they have made.

I do work on my own bike but haven't had to do anything major. Respoked rear wheel, replaced rear brake line, and seal in upper fork tube. I have an S&S carb as you probably can see in pics. It needs a smaller jet I believe because it runs rich. I would think that my local Harley shop would work on for 80 plus dollars an hours. I live just south of Indianapolis so plenty of bike shops available.

I think I know what you mean about local HD shops not knowing about old school Harleys. I asked a local HD shop "what kind of fluid do you recommend for my 78 FXE?" and they didn't know. I asked a guy at work that used to have a shovel head and he said use gear oil.
