Again a shrinked bottle, in action, but short film.
I tried to seal the first bottle i maked, but its hard to find a good sealing stuff for SS-PET.
What i tried, dont stick to both materials, if the cell is getting hot, the seals are breaking, and that sucked a bit.

  • Maybe what you need is to seal the cell like you have done, but put the entire cell inside another container.

Let the outside container deal with solution leaks and let the Pet bottle deal with current leakage.

One advantage of putting the wrapped cell in another container is that it will help moderate any heat you may generate.

KyHighlander59 has pretty much worked out a process you have here except he puts his cells inside another container.

    This is just a thought.

  • Hi lutherp40

Thats funny, great tip, great work from

KyHighlander59, but i want to go another way, if i go back to bottles.

If i mount the electrodes in the bottle and use srews, it will work, but the cleaning Problem stays(must break bottle to clean plates.)

My SS isnt good enough for a really serious try, my water in all attempts turns brown.

With different electrolyte and pure destilled water.

My ss is a bit magnetic, but the other parts in V4A (better quality) are non magnetic :o(

  • The plates getting dirty will not be permanet. "Eventually" this will stop.

Try running the plates for 12 to 24 hours non stop at a low current. 1 or 2 amps. Unwrapped open container.

Also swap the polarity after say about 12 hours.

You can also try soaking them in vinegar or citric acid for a few days. That also helps.

Basically the cheaper grades of stainless just need to be conditioned.

You can make it work. They just need more preparation than 316L requires.
