Normal glass is the best tool to shatter tempered glass.if you have a tempered glass coffee table etc be carefull when placing down a cup one wrong move could reduce it to tiny squares of razor sharp glass

@sheepfax I'll have to test that out on an old tank I have. It's already got a hole in the bottom so I'm 99% sure that it's not tempered, but with the luck I have some times it'll end up being some freakish tank glass that was drilled first and then tempered before install. Dang hole is only 1" dia, worthless for an overflow.

Tempered glass is somewhat polarized. If you rotate a polarized lens it will darken as you rotate. I sure wish I'd remembered that. I got a tank for free, looked for some kind of label, figured it might be tempered glass and tried it.... boom. It would have been useless to me anyway without the hole I was trying to drill. So now I know.

@josue0685 What do you sand it with if you want to reduce the width?

@manheap12 are you sure?

Good video to see what happens. I always wondered what would happen if I cut my 100 gal aquarium glass and my friends say never do it. Now I know. :D

@mrkopsho no you can't. you can only drill before tempering. I worked in the art glass industry for 3 years and it just cant be done. They would give new guys tempered glass as a joke and tell them to cut it or drill it. Then everyone would stand around and watch and laugh.

@mrkopsho what do you use to drill it? i want to do it myself, anfd not screw up

@Metalann82 The bits do have sharp edges they are just chunks instead of shards reducing the chance on serious injury.
No, the point is, once failure occurs, the ENTIRE sheet of glass will crack, instead of cracking just where the damage was made. And it does not shatter into sharp pieces, it just cracks. Hence the term SAFETY GLASS. And this was a demonstration of just that.
