It is an anti war song about how the Irish were used in the East Indian Trading company and during the 19th Century when the British were fighting the Napoleonic Wars they dispatched soldiers to Sri Lanka (Isle of Cylon) in order to keep the island for their tea trades. It was about those from County Kildare returning home from fighting for the British with war injuries.
