The Yakthung or Limbu tribes and clans belong to the Kirati nation or to the Kirat confederation. They are indigenous to the hill and mountainous regions of east Nepal between the Arun and Mechi rivers to as far as Southern Tibet, Bhutan and Sikkim.
The name Limbu is an exonym of an uncertain origin. The word Limbu roughly translates as an archer or 'the bearer of bows and arrows'. They call themselves Yakthumba/Yakthung (in Limbu language). They are also known as Shong, Xong or Drenjongka དརེན་འཛང་ཀ་ (in Tibet) or Chong, Tsong འསང་ in (Sikkim). Their estimated population of 700,000 is centered in the districts of Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum, Dhankuta, Taplejung, Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Panchthar and Ilam in Nepal. These districts are all within the Mechi and Kosi zones also known as Limbuwan. Portions of the Limbu population are also located in the East and West districts of Sikkim. A smaller number are scattered throughout the cities of Darjeeling and Kalimpong in West Bengal, India, and in North and South Sikkim and Bhutan.
Limbu Clans and Tribes are divided into the Lhasa gotra (from Lhasa, Tibet) and Yunan gotra (from Yunan, China). The Limbu are known as Yakthung Thi-bon or Des Limbu (ten Limbu), from which thirteen Limbu sub-groups have emerged. According to legend, five of the groups came from Yunan, China and the other eight from Lhasa, Tibet.
Unlike the caste system which was brought to the Nepal region after the Hindu invasion, a caste system is not practised among the Limbu people and Limbu sub-groups. However, there are numerous different clans and family-sects.

  • @bossthesins y do you think that brother. how can a same human being can have different IQ with another race. we are classified in mongoloid category and if you look at today's world we are ahead than any other race in planet.

it's just that our ancestor weren't allowed to study, so it turned younger generation brains down. the indo-aryans of nepal had political power and they ruled us by separating and letting us only work in farms or join the army.

this is the time to rise up my brother !!

  • Sorry but these facts are simply wishy washy. most of THESE ARE NOT FACTS. limbu is a sub division of KIRAT and is not an ancient as this video leads to believe in fact its no older than 300 years, like RAI, are an evolved form of KIRAT. LIMBU is not the only script that originated in nepal look at nepal bhasha and both of these are Sino-Tibetan. YOU cannot credit (some of them)these to just to LIMBU, REMEMBER you were not always LIMBU.@bossehesins you are an idiot.

  • @yomamafool1 yeah lets rise

  • "Declaring separate states will not divide Nepal, but if separate states are not given then one cannot be certain of the consequences"

  • @sulav ur rite gurkhas will go for 1/4 money because the nepalese rulers wont do anything about it. in fact they intend to keep it that way they dont want the kirats in gurkhas to be rich. it is the duty of the government to look after the welfare of its people, but our rulers are always discriminating so they will not speak for our equal rights in british army. so the kirats themselves initiated the GAESO movement. the GAESO, appeal was rejected by the discriminative supreme court of nepal.
