PiTiVi is a program for video editing based on the GStreamer framework. It is free software under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License.

Any PiTiVi component can be extended through plugins written in Python. The multimedia importing and processing is handled by the GStreamer multimedia framework, and the processing of non-linear editing is handled by the GNonLin editing plugins.

Thanks to GStreamer, PiTiVi is notable for being the first open source video editor to support the Material eXchange Format for professional digital video and audio media.

While not boasting as many features as other common video editors, PiTiVi has: * Importing support for all video/audio/image formats provided by GStreamer plugins * Desktop environment integration and consistently designed user interface o Drag and drop for importing, adding and manipulating clips on the timeline o Native GTK+ theme integration o High quality translations and localization by the GNOME translation teams o Full compliance to the GNOME HIG (human interface guidelines) * Unlimited video/audio track layers * Full undo/redo history * Basic clip manipulation o Trimming o Snapping o Splitting/cutting * Rendering in any container and codec supported by GStreamer plugins * Frame stepping, keyboard controls and shortcuts * Audio editing o Sound mixing of multiple concurrent audio layers o Trimming, splitting/cutting o Volume keyframe curves * Fast audio waveforms * Video thumbnails * Fast, playhead-centered zooming * Mousewheel integration with modifier keys for timeline navigation * Scrubbing * Linking/grouping of clips * Clean, modular code with extensive test suite (test-driven development) * Extensive user manual * Configurable appearance and behavior (clip colors, snapping sensitivity, thumbnail and waveforms generation, etc.)

  • That's one good accent :)

  • I like your video

But one problem I'm having is that if I grab a few videos from my camera, add them, and put them on the timeline (easy enough) and then render project, it doesn't work in youtube unless you have intimate knowledge of the file structure

I realize it's good for file conversions but for who? .01% of people?

I think it's really cool that ubuntu has a preinstalled video editor. But if a typical user can't get it to render to show in youtube, something's wrong

    Food for thought

  • worst theme ever!!

  • Sestru ti jebem u picku :@

  • can i edit call of duty with this

  • Thanks for the tutorial, although i would not recommend pitivi over kdenlive!

  • I ddnt understand how :/

  • @iSrosh128 Finally, I got something going. PiTiVi is DEFINITELY easy out of the many I've tried so far. The problem is that I cannot RENDER my file. It takes like about 4 hours and not even half is done.

Finally, I tried LiVES. Honestly, I don't like it because of the difficult interface. Ok, it's difficult for me :)

Still for all, it did the job in about 30 minutes. The quality is SIMPLY TERRIBLE! I don't have much of a choice here but it still does the job.

  • Salaam 'alaikum brother!

How long would it take to RENDER a video with PiTiVi? I some simple edits (cut about 20 points from an ogv) and when I hit render, even after 3 hours, it's not finished. It says EIGHT hours to finish. Is this normal or is it some problem. BTW, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10
