Underground of all places. That's where acid from the soil would do its worst if water were to get through a hairline crack or pores in the concrete.

@logik316 true but they were still sitting in water and mud for damn near 50 years as well !! i think the damn cement leaked from day one u dont get that kind of damage to metal even after 20 years !1 it leaked from day one !!

Those tires weren't exposed to outside air or sunlight, so it's unlikely they would've cracked or rotted.
it is amazing how those tyres are still holding air after 50 years. Unbelievable

OHHGEE, Learn your facts. The plymouth was buried in a sealed cement container. At the time the capsule was made, it was waterproof. But as time went on it became not waterproof.
