the metaphor may be alluding to the past decade's record-breaking "doomsday" solar flare events affecting Earth and GPS satellites (and Mars) ...??...
[At any rate, I love this entire album's poetry! Truly, Robert's writing ever continues to expand and mature throughout his career....]

Poetically speaking, I can't help but metaphorically equate this song to the celestial freakshow discovered in 2006 between two supermassive black holes known as the Antennae careening in a dangerously close dance toward eventual collision, meanwhile cutting their "random" rug in cramped quarters for God knows how long......who will swallow who??
(BTW, Robert's passion for astronomy seems to surface frequently in his history of songwriting...surely this song was inspired...??...)
